WARNING: LOWHEAD DAM AT RUTLAND REQUIRES PORTAGE
This early 10 mile float trip begins at the Willows Wildlife Area Access in Bradgate and winds its way through bottomland timber and farmland on its way to Rutland. A concrete boat ramp at Willows Access provides easy entry into the river but does require traveling down a gravel access road for approximately 1/3 of a mile. Caution should be exhibited at time of high water as parts of the access road can be underwater. A short 2 miles downstream from Willows Access is the beginning of the Bradgate Wildlife Area. The first and only bridge encountered on this float is the Murray Bridge (190th Street), which is 6 miles downstream of Willows Access. AT RUTLAND, A LOW-HEAD DAM REQUIRES PORTAGE. A series of small island begins a river mile 9. At these islands, paddlers should begin to move towards the north bank of the river and prepare for exit which is by way of a small tributary immediately upriver of the dam. A concrete boat access is located in the tributary at Rose Mill Park for exit.
