Humboldt to Gotch Park
Distance - 5.0 MILES
WARNING - ROCK DAMS MAY REQUIRE PORTAGE
EXPERIENCED PADDLERS ONLY: Can begin trip at 3rd Ave. North with the presence of a carry down access behind the City of Humboldt Park Shop. This area can be shallow so check water levels before the trip. Two rock dams will be encountered if entry into the river is at this point. The rock dams, while offering white rapids experience, can be hazardous to both the inexperienced paddler and canoe/kayak.
NOVICE PADDLERS: To avoid the rock dams, a carry down access is available at the intersection of 9th Ave. South and 9th Street South. Depending on your starting point, this float will pass near the downtown district and under Sumner Bridge (also offers carry down access) before winding through residential Humboldt and into the agricultural landscape. At 4 miles, the Gotch Park Road Bridge is encountered signaling the end of this float at Gotch Park where a concrete boat ramp is present. After passing under the bridge, paddlers should work towards the north bank to make exit at the Gotch Park Access easier.
