Foster Bridge to Dakota City

Distance - 9.5 MILES
This winding and scenic float begins at the Foster Bridge on County Road C26. Carry down access is available south of the bridge on the west side of the river. A gravel access road is available on the south side of County Road C26 for the parking and river access This portion of the river meanders back and forth on its way to Dakota City snaking amongst the timber, pasture and crop fields. No bridges or trestles are encountered until 9 miles into the float when paddlers pass under the Highway 3 bridge. A short half mile down the river, paddlers arrive at Dakota City Park. The remnants of the old mill dam are still present with the concrete wings of the dam still standing. A rock dam does exist at the dam site and can be portaged with the location of a concrete boat ramp upstream of the old dam site. Entry below the rock dam can be found under the County Road P56 bridge at the park. This float also offers paddlers abundant opportunities to view wildlife and enjoy the quiet solitude of the river.
